Existence, Self and Identity are the wondrous themes that inspire me to create sculptural ceramic and mosaic pieces. Rich textures and smooth surfaces contrast, creating evolving dimensions within a space.

Identity I
Ceramics

Growing up in Istanbul before moving to London twenty years ago had an impact on my cultural identity which I wanted to express in my work.

The same motif was worked on Identity II on thin layers of porcelain clay before the crack effect was overlaid.

Inside I
Ceramics

What is this body? What do we call "life"? Is a breath just air or is there something more to it than what we understand?

Sweet Dependence
Ceramics

Breath! This work is about the breath without which there is nothing for a being. We depend on it so much without knowing it and pay little attention to it; yet it brings everything that a being needs and more.

I cast approximately 30 hands in order to create variation in this installation.

The Drop and the Ocean Side I
Ceramics

I have been working with a continuing theme: the contrasting attributes of the internal and external spaces that a being occupies. This piece is a part of several works that I have made and each side was worked differently in order to portray the differences.

Contrasting Spaces
Installation
This installation is constructed with 700 pieces of hand formed porcelain, each coloured with different coloured slips, incised and pressed with images from daily life . The metal rings that hold the porcelain tags and the centre piece are all suspended individually from the ceiling in order to promote mobility in the installation.

Variation of Oneness
Mosaic

This interior piece was designed and created in response to an invitation from a wildlife foundation to exhibit in Scotland. The exhibition didn't take place for unforeseen reasons; yet I did the piece and had a wonderful time making it.
